Hence the striking inward tread.

 As in a hamster bike, the tread only starts to roll when you take a small step or: up a level to accelerate the treadmill downwards. 

This makes some getting used to and requires a little more practice and coordination than running on a regular treadmill.

Another feature of the unique tread: the curved shape “forces” the landing on the middle/forefoot, which is why the Curve treadmill is more recommended in practice for advanced athletes.
